MISS KITTIN - BatBox

french DJ Caroline Hervé caused major ripples in the underground techno scene with her maverick approach to the genre when she first appeared 10 years ago.
on electroclash classic Frank Sinatra, she laughed at the death of Ol' Blue Eyes, and she sang from the perspective of an infant hell-bent on murder on 2001's Rippin Kittin.
techno does not usually feature lyrics, let alone such skewed subject matter: her charismatic approach made her a major electroclash figure, and she has sustained her cult status.
this is unlikely to change, despite a more pop approach for Batbox and co-production from Pascal Gabriel, who has worked with Dido.
the music remains niche, industrial and teutonic, over which Hervé delivers idiosyncratic observations on her life and gothic pursuits: "oh to be a modern girl who's not ashamed to be in guitar shops / walking down the street with a leather raincoat".
it's impossible not to love her.
